March 15 Registration Deadline for Saskatoon SeedTALK Seminar
There is only a week left to register for the SeedTalk Seminar and Build Your Binder Seed Treaters Workshop being held in Saskatoon on March 22-23. This is your opportunity to help design the Next Generation Seed System from the Ground up – and build your own quality assurance manual for seed treating, tailored to your operation.
CSGA’s Strategic Plan gives mandate to CSGA to explore several new ways of doing business including modernization of Circular 6; exploring new working relationships with other industry stakeholders; exploring the need for an education and professional recognition program for seed growers, exploring alternative certification models and delivery models. Discussions at this event will range from streamlining regulations to seed production contracts to finding a bigger voice for the seed industry. Please join us and give your voice to shape our policies, programs, and services.
In addition, CropLife Canada will be conducting a “Build your Binder” workshop to help seed treaters develop documentation to meet the Accredited Seed Treatment Operation Standards which came into effect January. 1.
Deadline for event registration is March 15. Registration cost is $50 for CSGA members and $100 for non-members. Visit http://seedgrowers.ca/seedtalk-seminar for complete details and links to the agenda, registration form, and hotel reservations.

In Memory of René Daoust
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a dear former colleague, René Daoust, who spent 35 years with the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association, and worked tirelessly to improve the Canadian agricultural industry.
René grew up on a Holstein dairy farm in Ontario, showed cattle at fairs in Canada and the United States and worked with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture & Food as Dairy Herd Improvement supervisor, before joining the CSGA in 1978.
Throughout his thirty-five year career with the CSGA, and up until his retirement in 2013, René delivered membership services and technical guidance to seed growers across the country. He was a valued part of our team and many of us learned so much from him. He cared deeply about Canadian agriculture and his dedication to seed growers was clear to those around him.
As the sole bilingual person in the CSGA office for many years, he developed close relationships with many French speaking growers in Quebec. René received a CSGA Honorary Life Award in 2015 for his service and dedication to the seed industry.
He is survived by his wife Jeannette, their two children Céline (Douglas) and Julien (Lisa), and two grand-children. Funeral details and a condolence book is available online.
Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.Back to top
