George Da Pont, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) President, was part of the recent deputy Minister shuffle. He went from CFIA to Health Canada as deputy Minister. His replacement at CFIA is Bruce Archibald. Seed growers might recall the name as Mr. Archibald was assistant deputy Minister of research at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) 5 or 6 years ago. In fact, CSGA had Mr. Archibald travel to the Maritime Branch a few years ago to speak about the AAFC Research Branch cuts that were taking place at that time. Seed growers will appreciate having a familiar face at the helm of CFIA especially since he has a strong background in agriculture.
