Who We Are
The Canadian Seed Growers’ Association (CSGA) is a respected, science-based, digitally driven global leader in seed quality assurance and genetic traceability committed to growing an innovative, profitable, and internationally competitive Canadian agricultural sector. CSGA is Canada’s national seed crop certification authority and has partnered with the Government of Canada since 1904 to administer Canada’s national seed certification program. CSGA’s authority is enabled via the Seeds Act and Seed Regulations.
Our core mandates are to establish standards for varietal purity of seed and provide a national seed crop certification program to benefit Canadian agriculture. Each year, we certify the seed crops of 2,900+ seed growers and 2,500 seed-growing businesses covering 1.25 million acres of over 60 different crop kinds and over 2,000 different varieties from coast to coast.
Canada’s seed sector is recognized and respected around the globe because it ensures mechanical purity, while providing an audit trail that guarantees varietal and genetic identity. It is a system that has given Canada its worldwide reputation as a supplier of quality seed.
Canada’s seed growers have a long established history of providing a field-to-fork value chain, one that is rooted in identity preservation and quality assurance. They are committed to Canada’s seed system, its standards and methods of producing clean, true-to-variety, high-quality seed.
As leaders in the seed sector, the CSGA is involved in new and emerging technologies, discussions on timely and topical issues, procedures and policies to monitor and regulate production, and policies to protect its members both domestically and abroad.
