Glen Green – 2016 Honorary Life Award Recipient
Glen was born in Manitoba 1964 and raised in Mellonville, a village near Portage la Prairie, Man. His career in farming began early; he spent many of his summer vacations helping out at his uncle’s dairy farm.
During his high school days, Glen worked for the B.C. Pea Growers running a pea splitting machine. After graduating he attended Red River College, where he met his wife Suzanne. They were married almost a year later and have two sons, Brodie and Bryan.
Glen began working at BrettYoung Seeds in 1986 as a seed bagger. When a position opened up in the BrettYoung seed lab, he applied for the job and became an accredited seed analyst in 1994. Glen became the lab manager at BrettYoung until he decided to start his own business in 2005 — Green Seed Lab. The company operated for nearly four years until it was bought by SGS Canada.
Glen’s many roles within the industry have included serving as president of the Commercial Seed Analysts Association of Canada in 1995 and as a director of the Canadian Seed Institute, which he had a role in creating. Glen is now vice-president of Integrity Seed Lab, part of the Imperial Seed Group.
